Canandaigua VAMC Condensate Loss at RicWil Investigation and Design

Canandaigua, NY

Project Objective

After experiencing condensate loss in the steam distribution system, the Canandaigua VA Medical Center performed a leak investigation using thermal imaging. This revealed multiple areas of concern and necessitated the shutdown of a portion of the system until repairs could be made.  Encorus was contracted to investigate suspect areas and design repairs for the system.

Unique Project Features

Construction and demolition activities were specifically sequenced in order to allow an existing gravity feed condensate line to remain active throughout the project.

Encorus Group Solution

The Encorus Team performed an investigation of the suspect areas using methods including utility tracers, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), interviews with personnel, and exploratory digging. A shallow concrete trench system was designed to replace the RicWil direct buried conduit system.  The project also included the preparation of cost estimates and specifications per VA requirements.

Specific Project Tasks
