Mollenberg-Betz Hanger Supports at SolarCity

Project Objective
The objective of this project was to provide structural design of various pipe and conveyor support beams, members, hangers, and connections for the supported load.
Unique Project Features
The project required structural engineering and coordination with other disciplines to support piping used for chemical solutions and water delivery to, and then wastewater delivery away from different mechanical processes that are used in the creation of solar panels.
Encorus Group Solution
Mollenberg-Betz used Unistrut shaped and connections to support their piping throughout the building. Once loading was calculated, beam supports, hangers, and connections were sized using the Unistrut catalog as well as the AISC Steel Construction Manual, 13th Edition.

- Navigating a 3D model of the building and all its equipment to determine pipe sizes and lengths
- Loading calculations
- Performance of structural analysis to size the beams, hangers, and connections

- Coordination with other mechanical and electrical equipment contractors
